230 Million People Ask ChatGPT Health Questions Every Week. Is Your HealthTech Brand Ever the Answer?

On 7 January 2026, OpenAI didn't quietly bolt a health feature onto ChatGPT. It launched a dedicated health product and within weeks was reporting that roughly 230 million people ask it a health or wellness question every week, which is close to a third of it's entire user base. Most HealthTech marketing teams haven't changed a single line of their content strategy since.

I'm Boudhhayan Duttaa, founder of Batti Jalao, an AI-led healthcare marketing agency. We build content and marketing systems, having built proprietary agentic systems like BattiLynk AI, BattiSense and BattiFlow, across all the healthcare and wellness sub-segments.

HealthTech is the one segment where the AI-visibility is no longer coming, it has already arrived. This article is about what to actually do about it.

How Should HealthTech Brands Optimise Content to Get Cited by ChatGPT, Gemini and Other

AI Health Assistants in 2026?

Let's start with how fast this moved. Analysis of healthcare AI Overview patterns found that treatment and procedure queries, the exact kind a prospective user types before choosing a HealthTech product or provider, now trigger an AI-generated overview close to 100% of the time, up from under half in 2023. AI-driven search visits overall grew more than 40% YOY between early 2025 and early 2026.

This isn't a niche channel anymore. For a growing share of your prospective users, ChatGPT or Gemini's answer is the only 'Page' they ever see. The discipline that responds to this has a name, Answer Engine Optimisation (AEO). Traditional SEO earns you a ranked link, while AEO earns you a mention inside the answer itself, a fundamentally different, higher-stakes prize, because a brand that's absent from the answer doesn't just rank lower, rather it's invisible.

The Question Nobody Can Answer Without a Tool

Ask a HealthTech founder whether their product gets mentioned when someone asks ChatGPT to compare options in their category and most either don't know or answer from a handful of manual searches run once, months ago. That's not a criticism, it's a structural problem. Manually testing prompts across ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity, tracking which sources each one cites and noticing when that changes is the kind of task that's genuinely useful the first time you try it and never again, because nobody has the bandwidth to repeat it weekly, manually.

This is precisely the gap BattiSense was built to close. Not to track your competitor's visibility, which most tools do, but to continuously update your own brand's FAQs on your website. The output isn't a vanity ranking, it's a running answer to the question whether AI sources your answers when someone asks it a question?

So What Actually Gets a HealthTech Brand Cited?

Three things, consistently, across nearly every serious analysis of AI citation behaviour:

1. Structure that an AI can extract cleanly. Clear headings phrased as the actual questions users ask, concise direct answers near the top and no burying the useful sentence in the fourth paragraph.

2. Expert-level specificity, not marketing language. AI engines are explicitly tuned to prefer content that goes beyond common knowledge. A generic "we improve patient outcomes" page loses to a page that explains exactly how, with real detail.

3. Freshness. Brands that lead on AEO tend to revisit and update core content on a quarterly rhythm, not once at launch and never again. This is the specific gap BattiLynk AI is built to close for a HealthTech brand's own product and help-centre content, not generic blog output, but content structured from the first draft to be the kind of clearly-extractable, specific and current material an answer engine actually selects.

What This Looks Like in Practice

We hold ourselves to the same standard we're describing here. Before publishing content on a topic, we check what ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity when asked the underlying question and check whether any source is already being cited for it. The same self-audit habit is what we're recommending a HealthTech brand build into its own routine, not a one-off exercise reserved for clients.

If a topic has no clear cited source yet, that's the single strongest signal that a well-structured page can become one. For a HealthTech brand, the equivalent starting point is smaller than it sounds. Pick the five questions your own sales team gets asked most often, check today whether any AI engine already has a good answer and rebuild the ones that come up empty or wrong first.

Common Mistakes HealthTech Brands Make

Mistake One: Treating this as an SEO task and handing it to whoever already manages the blog without adjusting for the fact that AEO rewards direct, structured answers over the keyword-dense long-form writing that used to work.

Mistake Two: Optimising only for competitor-comparison queries. Category-defining queries such as, "What is [the problem your product solves]" not just "[your product] vs [competitor]" are where most of the citation opportunity actually sits and where almost nobody is competing yet.

Mistake Three: Checking once and stopping. AI engines change which sources they trust often enough that a citation you earned in March can quietly disappear by June if nobody's watching.

Is This Only Relevant to Large, Funded HealthTech Companies?

If anything, it's the opposite. A well-funded competitor's brand recognition still helps it in a traditional search results page. An answer engine doesn't care how large your company is. It cares whether your content is the clearest, the most specific and the most current answer to the question being asked. That's a fight a smaller HealthTech brand can genuinely win.

230 million people are already asking. The only open question is whether your brand is ever the answer they get.

In Batti Jalao, we build AI-led marketing systems, content, AEO tracking and custom agentic AI solutions for hospitals, clinics, diagnostic labs, insurers, HealthTech brands, etc.
